National and Local Updates for the Week of March 13th

Smart Meters

If you subscribe to The Defender, you know that Children’s Health Defense has recently been publishing articles about utility smart meters (electric, gas, and water). For 10+ years, Ohio utilities have been installing them and if you don’t have them on your home now, it’s likely they will be installed soon. Risks associated with them include cybersecurity, privacy, health, safety, and more. Click here for a 2017 letter signed by 3 doctors submitted to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) asking that there be no fees charged to Ohioans who want to “opt out” of smart meters due to health risks.  While some Ohio utilities offer expensive “opt out” programs, there are others that don’t allow consumers to “opt out” – even when they have medical statements.

A growing number of Ohioans are fighting for the right to “opt out” of utility smart meters. If you are interested, you can take action by asking your state legislator to  introduce legislation so that all Ohioans may opt-out of smart meters.

National Updates:

Governor Kathy Hochul Appeals New York Quarantine Camp Lawsuit within Hours of Deadline:

Just hours before the deadline, New York Attorney General, Letitia James filed an appeal on behalf of Governor Kathy Hochul to overturn the Quarantine Camp lawsuit that was struck down last July. This “Isolation and Quarantine Procedures” regulation allows the Department of Health to take citizens and lock them up with no proof of being sick with a communicable disease, force New Yorkers to stay in their home and take them into a facility with no due process. This regulation has no time or age restrictions, meaning they could take children and the elderly from their homes by local law enforcement for an undetermined period of time. Also, be sure to watch and share Curtis Cost’s interview with Bobbie and CHD Africa’s Shabnam Palesa Mohamed where they discuss the fact that this regulation is a violation of unalienable human rights and has serious implications not only for New Yorkers, but worldwide. This terrifying power grab by Governor Hochul needs to be stopped!

‘Simply Obscene’ FDA Approves Fourth COVID Shot for Infants and Kids Under 5:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s decision Tuesday to allow infants and children 6 months through age 4 to get Pfizer’s bivalent shot drew harsh criticism from pediatricians and others who said children don’t need and COVID-19 vaccines, let alone four doses. Twitter Files! Censorship Paid For By U.S. Taxpayers:

Last Thursday, investigative journalist Matt Taibbi revealed in “The Twitter Files” how the federal government used private companies, taxpayer-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and commercial news media to target social media accounts disseminating content that ran counter to official narratives. The files confirm that the U.S. government sought to have “misinformation” removed from social media platforms, including Twitter. While the vast majority of censorship requests did not come directly from the U.S. government, they did come from “non-governmental actors” who partnered with Twitter. Referred to as “digital McCarthyism” these attacks on free speech endanger the very essence of our democracy and liberty. CHD Publishing Updates

CHD Book Club: This month’s Book Club selection is “Underestimated: An Autism Miracle” by J.B. and Jamison Handley. “Underestimated” is the story of Jamie’s journey with Spelling to Communicate, a controversial assisted communication technique that is revolutionizing communication for nonspeakers with autism. S2C’s founder realized that the fine motor control required to produce speech was the only thing holding most nonspeakers back. She devised a way to help them communicate using only gross motor movements, which are much easier to control. As a result, many young people who spent a decade or more trapped in a silent prison have learned to communicate their thoughts, desires, and emotions. The Handleys have produced a documentary called SPELLERS, which has been chosen as an official selection of the Phoenix Film Festival. Discussion questions are up at the Community Forum. The plaintiffs are asking the U.S. Supreme court to decide if the Federal Communication Commission’s cellphone radiation guidelines preempt state safety and health laws. Read more.
